These jewel-like collages are developed quite intuitively by
cutting up and combining elements from proof prints from the ‘Mothership’ and ‘Beneficent Celestial’ series of etchings by Sutherland. It’s a rich process of exploring exquisitely detailed imagery and creating new sentinel guardianfigures to watch over you. Combining protective symbolism that makes reference to ancient and contemporary dialogues with the cosmos all as a prompt for contemplative focus.

KIM SUTHERLAND is an award winning, London-based artist whose work is a synthesis of tradition and personal narrative, often incorporating antique objects to infuse each piece with a rich patina of time. Kim’s practice spans the disciplines of metalwork, drawing and printmaking through an ongoing exploration of the ancient technique of intaglio etching - the ‘bite’ of line into metal – which allows her to create the symbolically ‘charged’ surfaces that sit at the heart of her work.
