_________

The +52 Wooden Step Stool is multifunctional and can be used as a step, somewhere to sit or as a side table. Made in Belgium, the stool is conceived to challenge the use of overexploited wood types and make more sustainable choices aesthetically, economically and ecologically.

Pterygota Macrocarpa also known as Koto is a deciduous tree found in West Africa that is mostly cut when clearing virgin tropical forests. The Koto wood is underused and undervalued due to its low durability and strength compared to other tropical wood. However, it has excellent properties for indoors use, furniture and interior design. Koto wood can be found as packaging material for overseas shipping, which testify of its poor economic value despite being classified as vulnerable with a conservation status.

Finish
The item is finished with natural beeswax. This finish seals the wood and minimise liquid absorption, preventing dirt from infiltrating the material. With continued use, surfaces will naturally develop a heightened sheen.

Product Care
To maintain the surfaces, it is recommended to clean them with a slightly damp cloth. Should the finish wear down significantly over time, rejuvenate it by applying a fresh layer of beeswax.

Each object is engraved to indicate the origin of the material to support an informed relationship between resource, processes and user.
